At a meeting the other day at my school we were given the new core standards. These will now replace our GLCEs. Has anyone else received theirs yet? I have not looked at them very closely, but they seem to be easier to follow and more streamlined. I am not sure how I feel about national standards yet. I remember this was a topic in our last class and we discussed it. I guess that I did not realize it was a done deal at the time! Just wondering if anyone else has seen them yet and what your thoughts are.
We have been introduced to them but it is not a "done deal" in my district yet. When we, as a Math Department went through the NCC K-12 this fall we found that the they were watered down versions of the GLCEs at the elementary level and pretty much the same at the secondary level. There are some things that are in different grades that the Michigan GLCEs currently has them but that is to be expected when you consider the fact that these are going to be National Standards and many states teach different things.
ReplyDeleteI have heard about these also. Our principal sent us some links to look over but they were very confusing and overwhelming. They were also presented to us as something that was "in the works." I'm not sure if they are finalized and everything, but it is just more changes for us to work with! Maybe it will make everything more equitable for all students across the nation!
